Jamie Hartmann-Boyce's study revolves around the theory of whether e-cigarettes are a better tool for quitting smoking than traditional means. Hartmann-Boyce comes to a clear conclusion!

E-cigarettes help smokers quit

This is what a study from the University of Massachusetts Amherst shows. The study was led by Jamie Hartmann-Boyce. "In England, unlike the rest of the world, e-cigarettes are already seen by public health authorities as a tool to help people quit smoking," said Hartmann-Boyce. It is time for the e-cigarette to be recognized as an aid.

Smokers need help quitting

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable illness and death worldwide. "Most adults in the United States who smoke want to quit, but many find it really difficult," says Hartmann-Boyce. "We need a range of evidence-based options that people can use to quit smoking."

Hartmann-Boyce and her team evaluated 88 studies with more than 27.235 participants, mostly from the USA, Italy and Great Britain. E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco, but instead vaporize liquids with flavorings and nicotine, so that only vapor containing nicotine is inhaled. The smoke from traditional cigarettes contains complex chemicals known to cause illness.

The success rate is over 80%

In the study, at least 80% of the subjects who tried e-cigarettes were successful in their attempt to quit smoking, compared to just 60% using traditional means and 40% of those who tried it without aids % who successfully quit smoking.

While non-smokers should avoid e-cigarettes, for smokers who want to quit smoking, quitting tobacco use can be a way to improve their health and reduce risks, Hartmann-Boyce said. "Not everything is completely harmful or beneficial. Different things can have different effects on different populations."
